Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square, London SW1Y 5BJ

Trafalgar Square is easily one of the most famous squares on the planet, and one of the must visit London attractions.

Trafalgar Square is located in the heart of central London and was named in celebration of Britain’s triumph at the Battle of Trafalgar and the square’s most famous feature, Nelson’s Column, was named after the great hero of that victory, Horatio Nelson.

One of the most popular things to do at Trafalgar Square is to have your photograph taken by one of the magnificent lions that guard Nelson’s Column, or by its famous fountains that sparkle and shine in the summers sun. Many london'ers and tourists go to Trafalgar Square to sit, eat and chill.

The National Gallery, the United Kingdom’s publicly owned art gallery is also on Trafalgar Square.

It is also popular for being a hotspot for political demonstrations or for other public gatherings, such sports victorys. Big screens are sometimes erected here to show major events such as major England World Cup football matches.

A huge Christmas tree (a gift from Norway) is located here each Christmas. Trafalgar Square hosts the Eid in the Square and Diwali in the Square festivals each year.

Trafalgar square is just a short walk from the iconic Admiralty Arch landmark.
