Jewel Tower

Jewel Tower, Abingdon Street, Westminster, London SW1P 3JX

The Jewel Tower is part of the medieval royal Palace of Westminster. It is one of only two surviving parts of the palace, which was savaged by fire in 1834.

The Jewel Tower is one of the most fascinating London attractions for history buffs and parliament enthusiasts. The Jewel Tower was built in 1365 and is one of London’s oldest still-existing buildings. The Jewel Tower (which is also known as King’s Privy Wardrobe) was built to house the treasures of the medieval monarch, Edward III. It is located just over the road from the current Palace of Westminster.

The Jewel Tower is a small three-storey building, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in historic significance. The Jewel Tower is home to the 'Parliament Past and Present' exhibition, which tells the story of the British parliament. The remains of the medieval moat and quay are still visible outside.
